Head Coach Michael Witt
2010: 11th season at Northwest, 14th coaching
Coach Witt graduated from Northwest High School in 1988 and from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, in 1992 with a BA in English and Education. Coach Witt is married to Stephanie, who also helps coach; they were married at home plate in 2003. In addition to softball, Coach Witt has also coached volleyball and basketball, and currently coaches track for Northwest. He is a member of the Nebraska Coaches Association. Coach Witt's softball coaching experiences include being the head coach of 14 ASA teams, three seasons as head coach at Fairbury High School, one season as an assistant at Northwest, and nine seasons as Northwest's head coach. Six of Coach Witt's ASA teams have finished in the top ten at state; one ASA team earned a district championship; several of his high school teams have won tournament championships; and several have finished in the top three in district tournaments. Coach Witt was selected as one of two head coaches in the 2008 Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Softball Game, and has had many athletes named to All-Conference and All-State teams. He has also had numerous players excel individually and go on to collegiate careers, including one Miss Nebraska Softball, one National Championship pitcher, and one NCA All-Star player. Coach Witt coaches because he loves to help players develop and grow as competitors and citizens. There is nothing more satisfying to him than seeing a player achieve a challenging goal.
In the classroom, Witt teaches English and Literature and has also been named to Who's Who Among American Teachers and the National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers. He is a member of the Northwest Educational Foundation Board and the Nebraska Coaches Association.

Assistant Coach Dave Prokesh
Coach Dave Prokesh joins our staff this fall after 14 years as the Head Coach at Columbus Lakeview. While at Lakeview, he led the Viqueens to a Class C State Championship in 2006, a State Runner-Up finish in 2001, ten state tournament berths, six Central Conference titles and an overall record of 275-111. Originally from Wahoo, Coach Prokesh teaches 9th grade core and American History at Northwest and is married to June.

Assistant Coach June Prokesh
2010: 2nd season at Northwest
Coach June Prokesh is back for her second season with the Lady Vikings after previously spending 13 years as an Assistant Coach at Columbus Lakeview. While at Lakeview, she helped guide the Viqueens to a Class C State Championship in 2006, a State Runner-Up finish in 2001, ten state tournament berths, six Central Conference titles and an overall record of 257-104. Originally from Greeley, Coach Prokesh is a 3rd Grade teacher at Cedar Hollow Elementary, and is married to Dave.
Assistant Coach Allisha Melroy
2010: 6th season at Northwest
Coach Melroy graduated from Doane College in May 2004 with a BA in English/Language Arts and Secondary Education. She was a member of the track and field team at Doane where she was an NAIA All-America Women's Weight Thrower and Scholar-Athlete. Originally from Holdrege, Coach Melroy has been involved with sports all her life and some of her earliest memories are of watching her two older brothers compete. She believes athletics teach kids some of the most important lessons in life: teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and the value of hard work. In her spare time, Coach Melroy helps lead the Northwest Fellowship of Christian Athletes and enjoys playing various intramural activities. She enjoys getting to know the players and their families.
Coaches Aide Stephanie King-Witt
2010: 9th season at Northwest
Stephanie enjoys helping the Northwest softball team as a volunteer coach, scorebook keeper, and team webmaster. She holds a 9-12 Coaching Certification from the Nebraska Department of Education, a BS in Journalism/Advertising from UNK, and an MSEd in Instructional Technology/Multimedia from UNL. Stephanie works at Bosselman Inc. as Director of Marketing and also owns a wedding photography business. She is vice-president of the Northwest Educational Foundation Board, and is married to Mike. Stephanie started her softball career at age 6 playing 1st base, with her dad as her coach, a tradition that continued through high school. She enjoys getting to know the players and their families and watching, coaching and cheering for Lady Viking softball!
